With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
Ages 16 and up. Please note that The Drowsy Chaperone has some adult themes, so please familiarize yourself with the show before you audition, if possible.

If you could live forever… would you? In the summer of 1880, 10-year-old Winnie Foster feels trapped by the strict rules of her well-to-do family. Longing for freedom, she runs away and stumbles upon the Tuck family—kind, reclusive people who have discovered a hidden spring that grants eternal life. After swearing to keep their secret, Winnie must make a life-changing choice when a mysterious man in a yellow suit threatens to expose the Tucks and sell the magical water to the highest bidder. As the danger grows, she is forced to ask herself whether immortality is a gift or a burden. A tender and thought-provoking tale, Tuck Everlasting explores the meaning of life, the value of time, and the bittersweet beauty of change.

Marionette Manipulation Workshop
January 21 7:00 PM
Ages 18+
Presented by Tanglewood Marionettes
Kick off the workshop with an inside look at how human-style marionettes are typically strung, led by our expert puppeteers. Participants will work with professional-quality marionettes throughout the session—each left unpainted and uncostumed to highlight the craftsmanship, construction, and jointing techniques behind their design.
Our marionettes are short-strung for easy floor-level operation, giving participants a true hands-on experience as they learn to control finely balanced puppets. You’ll start with simple motions, like turning the puppet’s head or lifting its hand, and gradually build up to more complex actions such as sitting and walking. Along the way, our instructors will guide you in observing real-world movement to enhance your puppetry skills.
The workshop wraps up with playful, interactive role-playing exercises—perfect for putting your new skills into action!

-
Upcoming Events TBA
***For more upcoming events, please view our Google Doc labeled "Upcoming Events"! ***
Submission Opportunities:
-
Atlanta Dramatists is accepting Halloween-themed short scripts and excerpts now for our Zoom short reading series on Sunday, December 7 at 7pm EST. In order to ensure a proper casting, we will need your 15-page (or less) samples and cast breakdown by Sunday, November 30. Please note that we are only accepting new scripts from dues-paying members at this time. If you are a dues-paying member and would like to participate, please email the script and cast breakdown to atlantadramatists@gmail.com with the subject "Atlanta Dramatists - Sunday Meeting". We will accept the first 6 plays. Any more than 6 will be moved to the following session.
-
Samples must be 15 minutes or less. Can be a stand-alone play or a sample from a larger play.
-
Please complete the cast breakdown by clicking this link, downloading this form, updating the info, and then attaching this form to the email.
-
We need to send scripts to the actors in advance, so they can review them. Therefore, we will need the scripts to be sent with the cast breakdown.
-

Atlanta Dramatists is partnering with SUGA (Senior University of Greater Atlanta) for another season of Zoom readings. Therefore, we are seeking scripts! These readings typically occur in the mornings, usually on a Tuesday or Thursday from 9:30am-10:30am. The sessions will run from March through May. Details:
-
We will be meeting with SUGA once a week for one hour max each week. Therefore, scripts must either be one-acts under one hour OR we could read a full-length play on two separate days, so long as each act of the play is under one hour. Alternately, we could read several short plays in one session, so long as the total run-time is under one hour.
-
Students at this university are all senior citizens. They are adults and there are no real content limitations. However, these students tend to appreciate romantic comedies and murder mysteries more than any other style of theatre. Still, if you have something you think they'd enjoy, please feel free to send it.
-
This is an entirely volunteer event. Atlanta Dramatists is making no money from this event, and will not be able to pay any money. We are doing this solely for the fun of it, and to give back to this community.
-
Playwrights are asked to attend the readings to the best of their ability. It will take place over Zoom, but it will be in the mornings. The readings will be recorded if the playwright cannot attend.
-
Please do not submit the same work that we've read before. Most of these students will be returners from the previous two years.
-
Please email scripts to atlantadramatists@gmail.com with the subject SUGA.
-
-
The Becoming Arts Collective in Pittsburgh is seeking 10-minute plays for an upcoming festival. When I asked for more details, such as theme or topic, they said they are "especially fans of uplifting endings." If you have something for them, please submit your work to Barbara Burgess-Lefebvre at Barbaraannlefebvre@gmail.com.
-

-
Atlanta Dramatists is accepting full-length plays for our 4th Monday Full-Length Play Reading Series #4MFLPRS. Please note that we are only accepting new scripts from dues-paying members at this time (if you have already submitted a script and received confirmation with a reading date, you will be grandfathered in). If you are a dues-paying member and would like to participate, please email it to atlantadramatists@gmail.com.

-
Atlanta Dramatists is seeking directors and script readers for our upcoming Solidarity Project. This will be a full production of several short plays and we need someone to help read and select scripts, and someone to help direct one or more short plays for the event, which will take place in March and April of 2026. If you are interested, please email us at atlantadramatists@gmail.com with a statement of your interest.
Membership Announcement:
-
Atlanta Dramatists are seeking paid members. What does this entail?
-
$20 membership fee for the entire year.
-
Dues-paying members will receive discounts (and sometimes even free admission) to all of our workshops and readings for the year.
-
Only dues-paying members will be eligible to have their scripts read in our First Sundays reading series, our Fourth Monday reading series, and our Fully-Rehearsed Play Reading series. Please note that if you have already submitted a script and have received confirmation with a reading date, then you will be grandfathered in for that reading, but if you wish to submit future scripts (including short excerpts), you will need to become a dues-paying member.
-
These fees will allow us to begin paying our actors who participate in these events a small stipend, as well as allow us to file necessary paperwork, hire directors and dramaturgs for fully-rehearsed readings, pay the venues (including Academy Theatre), and meet other necessary financial goals.
-
$20 membership fee may be paid through: Donations – Atlanta Dramatists. Just please clarify in the comments that this is for a membership, not a donation.
-
Audience members are welcome to attend our cold readings for free on Zoom or live, though a small fee may be requested for attendees of our fully rehearsed readings, workshops, and potential full productions. Dues-paying members will always receive a discount (and possibly even free admission) to any of our events that require an admission fee. The discount amount may vary based on the scope of the event.
